A LITTLE INFO ... about GARDEN RHYMES

A book of garden verse, gifted by one of her four sisters, inspired Louise Tessier to create Garden Rhymes and her unique hand-made clay art tiles (1998).

The process begins with a design created on paper, which incorporates botanical images and elements of nature along with quotations, sayings or verses. The design is then transferred to lino block, hand-carved and used as a stamp which is pressed into clay slabs. After kiln firing, each piece is either hand-painted and varnished or glazed.

The complete process brings together the disciplines of graphic arts, printmaking & ceramics... resulting in a unique surface treatment to each Garden Rhymes piece.

People are attracted to the inspirational messages, the vibrant colours and the intricate designs which Louise executes with much attention to detail and quality workmanship.

A LITTLE INFO ... about LOUISE

Born and raised in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada, Louise (Hudec) Tessier attended the University of Saskatchewan and received her Bachelor of Education ('82) with areas of concentration in art and music. Her other passion has been choral singing, spending 10 years performing with the award-winning University of Regina Chamber Singers.

Inspired by music, poetry and gardens, Louise loves to use her hands: from creating designs to molding clay; from stamping onto clay, fabric and paper to marketing her products; she creates, carves and colours to her hearts content!
